I would like to call your attention to a couple of new resources I have posted.

Firstly, if you are looking for practice problems, the AMC has worksheets and topical quizzes posted on-line for free. I have also posted a link to a site which has past AMC 8 and AMC 10 exams with solutions.

Secondly, I have posted links to The Mathsters videos on Youtube. The Mathsters is series of short video lectures introducing “proper” mathematics starring Dr. Eugenia Cheng of the University of Sheffield, UK. These are aimed at 16-18 year olds who want to stretch themselves towards undergraduate level mathematics, and interested adults who have little or no experience of formal mathematics. Dr. Cheng is a dynamic and engaging speaker. She has a rare gift for making complex mathematical topics clear and approachable. I wish I’d had a teacher like her as an undergraduate. Her enthusiasm for mathematics shines!

Coming soon…

With the completion of Problem Set #52, I now have one year’s worth of weekly problem sets with answers and video solutions. I will continue to post problem sets periodically, but perhaps not quite so regularly. For the rest of the summer I plan to change my focus to posting lessons. I know many of you may be anticipating math competitions in the fall. This is a great place to hone your skills. You can start with the lessons I’ve already posted: Counting Lists of Numbers and Arithmetic Series and Sequences. Look for more lessons over the next few weeks: Algebraic Methods of Arithmetic, Divisibility Rules, Venn Diagrams, The Fundamental Counting Principle, and more. These lessons will be geared toward middle school students or high school students just starting out or reviewing the basics. Spread the word!
