Problem Set #7

Here is this week’s problem set:  Problem Set #7

Don’t use a calculator with this set.  You shouldn’t have to use a calculator on any of my problem sets, but on this one I want you to look at the calculations you have to do and think of ways to simplify the arithmetic using things like the commutative and distributive properties.  It’s ironic that in elementary school you might get the idea that mathematics is all about arithmetic, but mathematicians don’t really enjoy crunching numbers.  They would rather find clever ways to minimize crunching numbers.  So that’s what I want you to do.  It’s much more fun to be clever than to be a computer!
